The best title that could be applied to what I do is "Business Process Analyst"

Business Process Analysts bridge the gap between IT and business professionals, and serve as mediators, translators, and facilitators.


A Business Process Analyst will understand business processes generally, making it possible to recommend and implement IT systems that are appropriate to their intended situation, keeping in mind the organization’s legacy from the past, present situation, and future strategy.  Each of these aspects (past present and future) are framed in terms of systems, people and corporate culture, both internal to the company as well as in their industry generally.

They will be sufficiently experienced to know the impact on IT systems performance of proposed systems that will meet business process requirements.  There will be an understanding of the criteria for selecting and configuring suitable technologies like the method of user interface, application platform chosen, security, etc

For this a Business Process Analyst needs a wide range of skills, to be fluent in both technical and business terminology, as well as having the ability to take a high-level overview to direct many component parts towards a single, coherent systems outcome.

This role may also be described by various other names, most of which address a subset of the tasks and skills provided by a Business Process Analyst. The most common names are Business Analyst, Business Consultant, Functional Consultant, or Technical Consultant.
